CA 161 Campus Project
April 2 鈥 16, 2025
SFU Harbour Centre
555 W Hastings St., Vancouver

This semester, students in CA 161, a first year visual arts course, have been looking at the ways that works of art can reflect the context in which they are made or exhibited.

Taking Belzberg Library as our subject, the works highlight what it might look like when a library becomes a site for other forms of research and practice. Students have utilized materials generated as a byproduct of the library鈥檚 regular functioning, considered the complex resonance of books left on the shelf, and used equipment recalling library practices of the past in addition to many other artistic strategies.

With so much research taking place online, materially reflecting on the meanings and uses of the library through actions, images, and objects communicates a questioning of the library and what we still might do here.

Participating students: Lucy Layton, Aidan Bingham, Myrna Lee, Emma Cahill, Megan Leung, Chloe Cao, Amy Li, Emma Chandler, Tai-Ying Lin, April Yue Chen, Eli Naldoza, Amelia Chong, Alissandra Ochangco, Finley Craig, Isabella Onorato, Silvio Dominguez, Mia Sugino, Grace Donaldson, Selina Tran, Nicole Hagley, Jennifer Xu, Ruby Henderson, Jeen Young Yi, Ava Jinkerson, Julia Zacharski, Geunho Jung, Monika Zarowny, Jiya Khaira.
