Departmental Scholarships & Awards
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Students must meet the Terms of Reference noted on each scholarship and award, and, unless otherwise stated, all students must meet the following criteria:
SCHOLARSHIPS
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit and non-credit courses are not considered.
- Have completed at least 12 units of standard graded courses at SFU.
- A student holding an SFU Entrance Scholarship is not eligible for any other University administered scholarships.
AWARDS
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and be in good academic standing.
- Be enrolled in a minimum of nine units of standard graded courses in the term of award. Challenge, audit, and non-credit courses are not considered.
- For graduating awards, where the Terms of Reference specify that the award is granted to a graduating student, or for essay awards where the award is based on an essay written in the past year, registration in nine units of standard graded courses in the current term of award or in any of the previous two terms will be accepted.

Application Instructions
All applications are to be submitted to ugclerk@sfu.ca by: 11:59 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
All applications require the following three (3) items to be submitted as a single, merged PDF, saved as in the following example:
LAST NAME, First Name (SFU ID) NAME OF AWARD
(e.g., SMITH, Alex (123456789) P. DERMOT MURPHY)
- Letter/statement of intent (if required by award)
- CV or resume
- Letter(s) of reference, or other supporting materials, that are requested by the Terms of Reference for each specific award, and/or that you choose to include to further support your application.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Only one (1) award application per email.
- Please state the name of the award you are applying for in the email subject line.
- Please also include your SFU ID number in the body of the email.
Award recipients will be contacted directly by the SFU Financial Aid and Awards department. Due to the high volume of applications, only students selected to receive awards will be notified.
P. DERMOT MURPHY UNDERGRADUATE AWARD IN BUSINESS: TWO AWARDS VALUED AT $4,300 EACH
Two awards, valued at $4,300 each, will be granted to undergraduate students who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, demonstrate an understanding of good corporate citizenship,integrity and ethics, and meet the following criteria:
- Are enrolled in a major, honours, or minor in the Beedie School of Business;
- Are in good academic standing;
- Can provide official verification of completed academic work in corporate social responsibility or business ethics; and/or can provide verification of community activity where there is a significant element demonstrating social responsibility.
SAMUEL BELZBERG AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN FINANCE: ONE AWARD VALUED AT $800
One award, valued at $800, will be granted in the Summer term to an outstanding graduating student in Finance who, in addition to the Terms of Reference noted above, meets the following criteria:
- Are enrolled in a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the Beedie School of Business with a declared concentration in Finance;
- Are in good academic standing; and
- Can demonstrate they have made an important voluntary contribution to the University community or who has otherwise demonstrated leadership and management capability.
COLLECTION OF INFORMATION NOTICE:
The information provided in your application is collected under the authority of the University Act R.S.B.C. 1996, c.468, and is related directly to and needed by the University. The information will be used to evaluate Departmental Nomination Awards and Scholarships. Additionally, information may be shared with donors and be utilized for future promotion of awards and scholarships.
