MY JOURNEY
Growing up, I have always loved the combination of technology and creativity. After finishing my marketing diploma from Douglas College, I transferred to SFU鈥檚 Beedie School of Business for my BBA in Management Information Systems. I wanted to put myself in an environment where I could learn alongside like-minded people, participate in extracurriculars to develop my professional network, and challenge myself every day鈥攁nd SFU Beedie gave me that space!
MY SFU BEEDIE EXPERIENCE
One of the main things that drew me to SFU Beedie鈥檚 undergraduate program was their co-operative program and their well-established student organization network. Throughout my four years at SFU Beedie, I have actively participants in various extracurriculars. I joined the Management Information Systems Association (MISA) as the technology coordinator and later as the VP of Marketing, where I met a lot of cool people and gained a lot of leadership experience. These experiences allowed me to secure my first co-op at Coast Capital Savings in product management and later a marketing internship at a fintech company, AdvisorFlow.
I later participated in the Management Consulting Career Preparation program led by the Career Management Centre, which gave me the skills I needed to apply and secure an internship at Big Four firm, Ernst and Young (EY), Vancouver. I later volunteered with the CMC to lead their Marketing Accelerator Program (MAP), where we collaborated with brands like Vessi to bridge the gap between SFU students and marketing professionals as we brought real-life business problems to our students for them to solve.
I also actively volunteered at SFU鈥檚 Bollywood club, SFU Befikre, as a member and later as the President for a year. This experience allowed me to pursue my passion of dance, connect with the community and find another creative outlet.
The SFU Beedie community always supports their students in their career as well as personal development by providing these amazing programs and other resources, for students to meet more like-minded people and develop their skills!
Key Takeaways
The lessons I learned from case competitions, the skills I gained from my internships, and the friends I made, both, inside and outside the classroom (MISA), are the core pieces of my life now! As an international student, I am grateful to have met people at SFU that I now call my family, and to have had the most fulfilling university journey at SFU.
Don鈥檛 be afraid to take the first step! Whether it be to apply for a student organization even if you don鈥檛 have past experience or to use SFU resources like career advising, scholarships, mentorship, etcetera. Everyone around you, is happy to support you and talk to you! Connect with people, build your network over genuine intentions, and have fun!
