We are pleased to share that accomplished research academic and author Dr. Marvin Washington will join SFU as Dean for the Beedie School of Business starting October 1, 2025.  

As current College Dean and Vice Provost for College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Alberta, Marvin oversees the faculties of Arts, Education, Business and Law. He also holds responsibility for developing and supporting interdisciplinary programming, research and leadership certificates. He has deep experience in building a productive and positive culture within faculties and developing strategic interdisciplinary opportunities to advance organizational goals amidst budget challenges. 

Marvin is a well-known educator, speaker, writer and consultant on the topics of leadership, strategy and organizational development. He is considered among the best in field in institutional theory as measured by the Financial Times ranking and is a Research Fellow within the North American Society for Sports Management (NASSM). Marvin also led the hallmark undergraduate capstone class program at Portland State University, providing undergraduate students with an opportunity to engage with the community through the lens of diversity, social justice, equity, agency, community and ethics.  

Marvin鈥檚 academic research focuses on the intersection of strategic management and organization theory. He concentrates on analyzing conflict at the institutional level and seeking to understand how status and reputation can impact organizational success. As a consultant, he applies learnings from his research to help businesses and organizations grow productively, thrive culturally, and succeed in operational and financial management.  

With years of university administrative experience, Marvin is looking forward to being back in a role that holds a strong connection to the business community, students and faculty.
