SFU Beedie School of Business is proud to announce that Dr. Andrey Pavlov, professor of finance, has been named a recipient of the 2024 SFU Newsmaker Award. This prestigious award recognizes SFU faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to engaging with the media and sharing their expertise with the public.

Dr. Pavlov鈥檚 dedication to public outreach and his ability to translate complex financial concepts into accessible insights have made him a trusted voice in the media. In 2024 alone, Dr. Pavlov was featured in more than 250 media appearances, providing commentary and analysis on critical financial and economic issues that impact Canadians.

Reflecting on his achievement, Dr. Pavlov expressed gratitude to those who have influenced his career and highlighted his motivation to contribute to public discourse.

"I have been fortunate to meet a few key people in my life who have made my academic career possible. This is my way to pay this forward鈥擨 hope my media engagement helps people make more informed financial decisions and politicians make wiser policy choices," said Dr. Pavlov. 

He also praised the professionalism of the journalists with whom he has collaborated, noting: "Despite the pressure and time constraints [journalists] face, I have always been quoted correctly and to the point discussed."

Dr. Pavlov will be celebrated alongside other distinguished award recipients at SFU's Awards Celebration on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
