Training Projects

BCCAI has successfully signed nine training programs to meet key industry needs in greenhouse efficiency, disease detection, drone mapping and Indigenous horticulture. These programs offer hands-on learning and expertise to develop agritech skills, focusing on practical, high-impact solutions that support business growth and talent development in B.C. Below is a list of training programs signed between February 2024 and 2025.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU)

Total project value: $12K

KPU provided a 4-section upskilling workshop on quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) technology to bridge the knowledge gap for professionals in farming, breeding, distribution, and veterinary fields.

Thompson Rivers University (TRU)

Total project value: $110K                                                                                                 

TRU provided two 2-day hands-on training sessions focused on flight practice and real-world farm and ranch uses of drones in the Williams Lake and Kootenay regions.

University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) (Training 1)

Total project value: $360K

UFV developed a series of online stackable micro-credentials to address the gap in credentialed agritech and food systems planning training, aligning with the StrongerBC future skills grant.

ÓÈÎïÊÓÆµ (SFU)

Total project value: $5K

SFU provided two training sessions focused on helping farm operators and business owners address big data challenges effectively.

BC Blueberry Council (BCBC)

Total project value: $26K

BC Blueberry Council delivered a 2-day intensive workshop aimed at educating growers on commercialization strategies for the successful launch of advanced berry selections. The training helped bridge the gap between TRL-9 and full commercialization.

Tea Creek

Total project value: $112K

Tea Creek provided introductory skills training for Indigenous participants, focusing on horticulture, Indigenous agriculture, drone training, and mapping through a combination of short- and longer-term modules.

Pacific Regional Society for Soil Science (PRSSS)

Total project value: $9K

PRSSS hosted an Agrology Data Seminar series to enhance data interpretation and communication skills for resource management professionals.

University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) (Training 2)

Total project value: $4K

UFV hosted a one-day workshop focusing on the production of biocontrol agents, specifically predatory mites, and a deep dive into quality control assessment.

BC Greenhouse Growers' Association (BCGGA)

Total Project Value: $6K

BCGGA delivered a Lean 101 workshop focused on improving greenhouse operational efficiency and sustainability for growers.
