Assistant Professor Business and Society
The Beedie School of Business at 尤物视频 in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia seeks outstanding candidates for one tenure-track position in Business and Society, starting on July 1, 2025. The position is open at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will engage in high-quality, impactful research in the area of business & society and have demonstrated potential for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of Business & Society with an emphasis on courses in Business Sustainability and/or Indigenous Business. Additionally, they should exhibit the potential for growth as a scholar and a willingness to actively contribute to the University. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in management or a related field with high research alignment by the employment start date. However, PhD candidates with solid indications of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor, with a promotion to Assistant Professor upon completing the PhD.
Candidates for the Assistant Professor position are expected to have a strong record of scholarly output as well as strong future research potential. In line with SFU Faculty Association / SFU Collective Agreement, this includes diverse forms of scholarship such as publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, Indigenous or other non-Western forms of scholarship, engaged scholarship, and public dissemination of scholarly work.

The successful candidate will help Beedie deliver on its commitment to 鈥減repare graduates to make responsible decisions and contribute to regenerative and reconciled economies by considering the systemic impacts of their decisions now and in the future鈥. Therefore, industry, governance, community and/or other practical experience is considered an asset.
SFU has identified several areas of interest where the University has been internationally recognised and where strategic research clusters are beginning to emerge. The Times Higher Education 2023 Impact Rankings place SFU as the world's top university for its global impact on sustainable cities and communities, and fifth in the world for climate action. Thus, we welcome applicants with research interests that align with SFU鈥檚 priorities around sustainable communities, community-business partnerships, Indigenization, community-centred climate innovation, and/or sustainability in the resource sector.
Additionally, the candidate should have the experience or the aptitude to contribute to Beedie鈥檚 teaching excellence in the area of business sustainability and/or Indigenous business. The courses in our area adopt a broad, systemic view of sustainability that includes learning objectives related to systems thinking, lifecycle thinking, human rights, worker wellbeing, community resilience, embedding sustainability, credible goal setting and disclosure, sustainable value chains, and change agency. The Business and Society area is also committed to honouring both Indigenous and Western worldviews in our courses.
The candidate will also be expected to contribute to faculty and university governance; to their profession; to the development of their discipline nationally, internationally or locally; and to the furthering of good relations between the University and local communities.
Duties
As SFU is a leading research university, successful candidates are expected to contribute to Beedie鈥檚 research excellence. The candidate will also be expected to teach courses in sustainability such as our foundational undergraduate course Business in a Sustainable Society, senior level undergraduate courses in Beedie鈥檚 Corporate Environmental and Social Sustainability Certificate, and courses in sustainability and/or Indigenous business at the graduate level in our MBA programs. In addition, the successful candidate will actively participate in Beedie鈥檚 collegial self-governance and offer support and guidance to students, peers, and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities, which could include acting as a faculty sponsor for our Gold status NetImpact chapter.

A statement outlining your perspective on SFU Beedie鈥檚 Vision and your personal goals for impact stemming from your research, teaching, and service.

Faculty salaries at SFU are based on the salary scales bargained between the University and the SFU Faculty Association.鈥疉 reasonable estimate of the salary range for the Assistant Professor rank is $174,700 - $184,700, dependent on experience and inclusive of a market differential. A reasonable estimate of the salary range for a successful candidate starting at the Instructor rank is $168,340 - $174,700.
