What is meant by 鈥渃ourse load鈥?

Your course load is the total number of units determined by the courses you're enrolled in for a given term. For example:

  • If you plan on completing your undergraduate degree in four years, you would need to take 30 units each academic year.
  • Since one course at SFU is typically worth three units, this would mean enrolling in 10 courses per year.
  • This can be achieved by completing 15 units each term in the Fall and Spring terms, or 30 units spread out over the Fall, Spring and Summer terms.
Is there a perfect course load?

Having the "perfect" course load simply means finding one that gives you balance in life both on and off-campus as you pursue your academic, professional and personal goals. Instead of finding the perfect number, consider what's right for your needs!

Your course load can vary from term to term

Recognize that your learning objectives, educational path and even life circumstances can evolve throughout your studies鈥攁nd your plans for degree completion can change along with them. Give yourself some time and allow a bit of flexibility in your plans before enrolling in courses each term.
