Getting your ID Card
To receive your SFU ID card, please bring the following:
- Your SFU ID number
- A physical copy of a valid, government-issued photo ID
Electronic copies and high school ID cards are not accepted. Your SFU ID card can only be printed if the legal name on your government-issued photo ID matches the legal name on your SFU student record.
New students visiting the Burnaby campus can collect their SFU ID card at the pop-up ID card facility (details below). Please arrive by 3:30 p.m. to ensure you have time to receive your card. *Saturday, August 30 - access will close at 3:15 PM*
Students visiting the Surrey and Vancouver campuses can collect their ID cards at the Registrar and Information Services office.
Returning students who need a replacement ID card must visit a Registrar and Information Services office at one of SFU's three campuses.

Name on SFU ID card
Your SFU ID card will display your chosen name. Before you arrive:
- Please verify that your chosen name is correctly listed in your student account.
- Make any necessary updates to your student account at least 24 hours in advance.
If you need a replacement card due to a name change, a replacement fee will apply.
New Students
If you are a new student, you can obtain your SFU ID card 24 hours after enrolling in your courses.
To get your ID card, please visit our pop-up ID card facility located at the Lower Level of the SFU Bookstore & Spirit Shop on the Burnaby campus. For detailed location information, please check .
Please remember to bring your SFU ID number and a valid piece of government-issued photo ID, such as a passport, Canadian driver's license, or Certificate of Indian Status. Electronic copies and high school ID cards are not accepted. Your SFU ID can only be printed if your legal name matches the name on your SFU student record.
Pop-Up ID Card Facility - Hours of Operation
- Wednesday, August 27 - Saturday, August 30: 9 AM - 4 PM (last access at 3:30 PM) **Saturday, August 30 - access will close at 3:15 PM**
- Tuesday, September 2 - Friday, September 5: 9 AM - 4 PM (last access at 3:30 PM)
- Monday, September 8 - Friday, September 12: 9 AM - 4 PM (last access at 3:30 PM)
Note: Former FIC students must bring their FIC ID card to obtain the new SFU ID card.
Current Students
Current SFU students who require a replacement ID card should visit the Registrar and Information Services offices that is most convenient to them. Location and hours of operation can be found on this page.
Bring a photo ID
To get your SFU ID card, you must bring a physical copy of a valid government-issued photo ID. The ID must include your full legal name and date of birth in English, and must not be expired.

Types of SFU ID Card
Student
SFU ID cards are automatically renewed whenever you enrol in courses. You must keep your card for the duration of your studies at SFU and thereafter as an alumnus.
Faculty and staff
Following the first payroll cycle, staff and faculty can get their SFU Employee ID card at any of our three campuses at Registrar and Information Services.
FIC students
You may need a Student ID Card if you live in SFU Residence and Housing and need access to the dining hall.
FIC students are able to request their ID and Replacement IDs at any of our Registrar and Information Services offices.
Visitors cards
Visiting faculty and scholars, SFU Childcare staff, visiting graduate students, and members of the SFU community who are being sponsored by a department may be eligible to receive an SFU ID card and library borrowing privileges. Visiting students not paying the Student Services fee will be required to pay a fee of $20 + PST before receiving their SFU ID card.
In order for us to determine your eligibility for an SFU ID card, our office will require a letter from your department that lists your start and end date at SFU, in addition to a valid piece of government-issued photo ID.
