OVERVIEW

The Chris Dagg Award for Impact in International Sustainable Development recognizes and celebrates a ÓÈÎïÊÓÆµ (SFU) faculty or staff member who has made a significant contribution to international sustainable development on behalf of SFU. Named in honor of Chris Dagg, this award acknowledges his longstanding service and his instrumental role in shaping and advancing SFU’s global engagement. Historically, the award has been presented as a career achievement to individuals with over a decade of dedicated service to the SFU community.

The recipient will be selected by the Chris Dagg Award Committee, which will evaluate eligible nominations. The award is administered annually, contingent upon the Committee’s recommendation. 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Both SFU faculty and staff are eligible.
  • An individual may receive the award only once throughout their career at SFU. 

CRITERIA

The nomination must clearly outline the nominee’s contributions to international sustainable development. Strong candidates will demonstrate alignment with SFU’s strategic priorities by: 

  1. Advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) both locally and globally, particularly in areas prioritized by SFU.   
  2. Integrating SFU’s core values (as outlined in SFU’s What’s Next) into international sustainable development initiatives. 
  3. Demonstrating innovative and sustained commitment to international development through research, teaching, community engagement, and partnerships that address global challenges.
  4. Embedding Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI), and Reconciliation as foundational elements within sustainability efforts, reflecting SFU's commitment to inclusive excellence and truth and reconciliation.

 

The Committee will also consider the breadth of activity (refer to scope of activities below); 

  • Length of time, with extended contributions typically spanning over five years at SFU;
  • Demonstrated excellence and global impact; 
  • Leadership in the field, at both individual and institutional levels; and
  • Level of innovation in approach and execution. 

SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES

Activities related to international sustainable development may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Leading or participating in international development projects
  • Engaging in international research and scholarly collaborations
  • Establishing academic networks and articulation agreements with international partners
  • Developing joint curricula with international institutions
  • Supporting international student-related initiatives
  • Advancing international community engagement

AWARD DETAILS

There is no cash prize associated with the Chris Dagg Award. The recipient will be honored with an engraved plaque, presented at a formal recognition event.

NOMINATIONS

SFU faculty and staff members may submit nominations. Nominations supported by students, alumni, international as well as community partners are encouraged. Self-nominations are also permitted.
