Microsoft 365 Copilot

What is Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Microsoft Copilot is a suite of general purpose AI assistants within the Microsoft 365 platform. As an alternative to public AI tools and services (such as ChatGPT, Bard...etc.), Copilot comes with data protection standards that align with the rest of Microsoft 365 at SFU, so no matter what you're working on you have access to an AI assistant that can help with your day.

At SFU, Microsoft Copilot encompasses:

  • Copilot Chat
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot (detailed on this webpage)

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a personalized AI assistant that works alongside you to understand and help with your day-to-day work at the university.

Microsoft 365 Copilot:

  • Is integrated with Microsoft 365 apps (such as Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, SharePoint Online...etc) so it can help you directly in the Microsoft apps you're using.
  • Is personalized to your SFU Microsoft account, so it can help understand and tailor responses that are specific to you.
  • Includes all the data protections of Copilot Chat, and uses SFU's privacy and security standards so you can get assistance with content that may not be appropriate in public AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Bard...etc).
  • Provides access to other AI services, such a custom agents in SharePoint Online.

How does Microsoft 365 Help?

Microsoft 365 Copilot is conversational, so you can ask it for help with a wide variety of topics, but here are a few examples:

  • Personalized work assistant: Microsoft 365 Copilot can help you icebreak a blank document page with drafts, summarize and suggest responses to emails, or help you work through complex data sets directly in Excel.
  • AI meeting notetaker: If you record or transcribe your meetings in MS Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot can recap and summarize the session by taking meeting notes, suggesting action items, or highlighting specific timelines of when different speakers are presenting.
  • Customized SharePoint Agents: Have an AI conversation with your SharePoint Online site or team by adding a dedicated Copilot Agent. A Copilot Agent will become an expert in all the content you choose to give it access to, so you can ask it questions about details that may be hidden or take time to find.
