2024 Faculty and Staff Awards

January 08, 2025

Here are some words of gratitude from the 2024 Faculty and Staff Award recipents.

"I was initially very surprised to receive the Distinguished Scholarship Award, and now feelings of deep gratitude pervade me. My academic home for the past 30 years (to be precise, 29 years and 5 months), the Faculty of Education at SFU has held me well over this time span. In its warm and capacious arms, I have been supported with collegiality and friendship that has provided me with opportunities for growth as a human being, scholar-practitioner, and mentor to students. My passion for learning and service grew naturally as I walked alongside my students and colleagues. In fact, the first thought, after the initial speechless shock, when called to receive the award, was that others should be also receiving this award, given that most of my publications were co-authored with my graduate students and colleagues, and much of my learning came from accompanying their learning journey. In recognition of the completely collaborative nature of my accomplishing and attaining anything in the last 30 years of my teaching at SFU, I offer a grateful gesture of three deep bows with my palms placed together. This award that I received is also YOURS!"

- Heesoon Bai, Distinguished Contributions to Scholarship in Education Recipient

"This award is a symbol of the collective effort, unwavering support and invested trust from Baset, Chris, Kellie and Meghan. I wish to extend my gratitude to them and fellow colleagues within the Faculty of Education community for fostering an environment where passion and perseverance can lead to remarkable achievements. Truly, a tremendous source of inspiration."

"I'm deeply humbled and grateful to receive the award for Workplace Performance. Education has been my work family for the past 17 years, and I'm thankful for the colleagues and friends I've worked closely with who have supported me over the years with my work and stepped in to cover my shortfalls (like public speaking!)."
