INDIGENEITY, TRUTH AND INTERCONNECTEDNESS
We believe each of us has an opportunity and a responsibility to better understand and embrace the diversity of Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The Faculty of Education is committed to bringing that interconnectedness and learning to everything we do, and we invite faculty members, students and staff to join in our collective journey. The Office of Indigenous Education is here to support that journey and to provide our community with the opportunities and resources to Indigenize our curricula, programs, and practices within the faculty, across the university and beyond.

OFFICE OF INDIGENOUS EDUCATION
The Faculty of Education is committed to collaborative work with diverse Indigenous communities and organizations as well as with individual students and educators in a range of rural and urban locations. Our Indigenous focus is inclusive of Indigenous peoples in Canada (First Nations, M茅tis, Inuit) as well as Indigenous peoples from other countries.
Our vision emphasizes:
- collaboration and equal partnerships with a diversity of Indigenous communities and organizations,
- equitable representation of Indigenous people in enrollment across programs,
- integration of Indigenous content and perspectives across the curriculum,
- equitable representation of Indigenous people on faculty and staff, support and encouragement of Indigenous research and scholarship,
- integration of Indigenous awareness and local protocol as part of all faculty and staff orientation, and
- requirement of anti-racism, multicultural and Indigenous pedagogical approaches as a part of all teacher certification.

Indigenous Education & Research
Our community engaged research strategy is built on asking the question "how is the community better because of our work?" Each of our Indigenous education researchers focuses on areas related to Indigenous knowledge, culture and language, asking questions and finding solutions for the betterment of society.

The Indigenous Education and Reconciliation Council provides guidance and recommendations on matters relating to Indigenous activities and goals within the Faculty of Education to ensure congruence and support the collective vision.

The Indigenous Garden, located on the unceded, traditional territories of the S蓹l虛ilw虛蓹ta蕯涩 (Tsleil-Waututh), S岣祑x瘫wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), k史ik史蓹茮虛蓹m (Kwikwetlem), and X史m蓹θk史蓹y虛蓹m (Musqueam) Nations, is more than just a green space—it is a symbol of healing and learning. The Garden serves as a dedicated area for celebrating Indigenous knowledges, pedagogies, practices, and ceremonies, as well as reflection and dialogue. It is also a place that invites community healing and profound learning.
