Medal is best "show and tell" for teacher

June 30, 2018

Nicole Wittenberg, graduate of the Post Baccalaureate Diploma in Counselling and Human Development program, will receive the Lieutenant Governor鈥檚 Silver Medal at this month鈥檚 convocation ceremony. The award is given annually to students who have excelled in their studies and who have contributed to the life of their post-secondary institution or their community.

鈥淭his is a pleasant surprise and I am honored to have been chosen,鈥 says Wittenberg. 鈥淚 have never won a medal before, as I wasn鈥檛 into sports growing up, so this feels very fitting that my first medal ever received falls under education.鈥

As an elementary school teacher with the Surrey School District, Wittenberg is dedicated to creating empathetic, hard-working and kind students. As well, she recognizes the importance of community engagement and being open to new possibilities.

In addition to her post-baccalaureate diploma, Wittenberg already holds a BA and a BEd with a minor in early learning.

鈥淒on鈥檛 limit yourself,鈥 she says. 鈥淕ive yourself the opportunity to explore different areas of study and to change your mind should new interests arise. Learning is a journey and sometimes the path doesn鈥檛 go as planned. That鈥檚 okay.鈥

When she receives the award, Wittenberg knows the first thing she鈥檒l do: 鈥淚鈥檓 pretty sure now I have the best 鈥榮how and tell.鈥 I can鈥檛 wait to show my students.鈥
