Sheinagh Anderson
Year Graduated: 2015
Program/Degree: Arts Education PhD
"Each faculty member I have encountered thus far has been generous with their time and supportive in their roles."
I am a transdisciplinary artist, researcher, teacher, mentor, and designer of Contemplative Artist Praxis as S膩dhan膩鈥攁 reflective creative aesthetic practice that extends inquiry into the act of creation through multiple modes and mediums as a conscious journey of personal transformation. As an educator, my interest is in mentoring the teacher in the student, co-creating and co-sustaining learning environments that are conducive to the unfolding practices, and inspiring (multi)linguistic sensitivities to self and other and self-as-other through contemplative art practices, ritual, breath, movement, sound, and deep listening
Please tell us how you first discovered your program.
I completed my MA in Arts Education at SFU and wanted to further my research in the area of Contemplative Arts Praxis as S膩dhan膩.
Please tell us why you chose the Faculty of Education at SFU for your studies.
My research sits somewhere between Philosophy and Arts Education. My program is interdisciplinary, which allows me access to both.
Who is a faculty member you have enjoyed working with and why?
Each faculty member I have encountered thus far has been generous with their time and supportive in their roles. In particular Dr. Lynn Fels and Dr. Heesoon Bai. I am grateful to have their expertise and inspiration on this PhD journey.
What inspires you to learn and to continue your education
The thirst for knowledge and the desire for personal transformation. From there, the opportunity to cultivate Ways of Knowing that can positively contribute to community.
What would you say to prospective students who are considering graduate school in the Faculty of Education?
You have the opportunity here to participate in your self-evolution鈥攖o transform the very foundation of you鈥攅njoy every moment.
