Research Interests
Dr. Lannie Kanevsky's research interests have their roots in her teaching experiences in regular elementary school classrooms and settings that supported students with special needs. Her research focuses on the nature and nurture of the potentials of highly able learners, how we can better understand them, and optimize the development of their abilities. Dr. Kanevsky's current research investigates the why, when and how high ability students want to learn in individual and collaborative group settings. This work is embedded in a sociocultural theoretical orientation. She shares Lev Vygotsky鈥檚 beliefs that higher psychological capacities, like self-regulated learning, reflect the social and cultural contexts in which they take place, they develop as a result of interactions with others, and that they involve both intellect and affect simultaneously.
