About

Becoming a certified teacher can be a challenging process, rife with shifting expectations as governments make unique decisions reflective of their priorities for the teaching profession. These policies and priorities are increasingly shaped in a global neoliberal educational arena. A critical thread in teacher education research explores the policies surrounding teacher mobility and migration and the diversification of the teacher workforce. These questions are also closely associated with the expectation of enhancing teachers’ competencies in addressing the needs of a culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse student body. This panel delves into the experiences of internationally educated teachers (IETs) in a comparative perspective, drawing on recent research investigating IETs’ experience in Canada, Iceland, and Germany. The presenters explore the policies and practices concerning IETs and examine their connections to the national and international discourses on internationalization and teacher professionalism. Join us for a rich discussion about the current landscape of teacher professionalism and IETs’ experience in Canada and beyond.

This event is hosted by the Centre for Research and Practice in Teacher Education.
