Racial Literacies in Teacher Education

Title: Co-Creating Teacher Professional Development to Foster Racial Literacies and Navigate Digital Racial Identities in Secondary Education

Funded by: Spencer Foundation Grant

Description: This project builds on scholarship in the field of racial literacy, which refers to the conversational capacity to facilitate nuanced conversations about race and racism and dismantle racist structures (e.g. Price-Dennis & Sealey-Ruiz, 2021). This study will implement and analyze a professional development workshop series that immerses teachers in two zones of discomfort – 2 digital tools and racial identity construction – to co-create pedagogical tools and strategies to support positive development of racial literacies.
