International Education

"Internationalization of higher education is the intentional process of integrating an international, intercultural or global dimension into the purpose, functions and delivery of post-secondary education, in order to enhance the quality of education and research for all students and staff and to make a meaningful contribution to society."

The Faculty of Education's Office of International Education is committed to international and intercultural understanding. In our collaborations, we focus on the importance of sustainability, ethical practice, and reciprocity, as well as our Faculty鈥檚 core pillars of Indigeneity, equity, and culture of inquiry.

The Office of International Education provides support to the Faculty of Education primarily in the areas of:

  • International collaborations, projects, and partnerships
  • Strategic planning
  • Customized delivery of professional development programs
  • Impact assessments of international collaborations
  • Safety and risk assessments for international activities

We also work with colleagues to support International Teacher Education Modules, field schools, various partnerships, and mobility activities.

OUR ROLE

Our office collaborates with universities and governmental organizations from around the world to provide customized professional development and international education programs for educators, student teachers, and educational leaders.

Meet the Team

Steve Marshall is a Professor and Associate Dean, Research and International in the Faculty of Education at SFU. Steve's research encompasses plurilingualism, academic literacy, international teacher education, and linguistic landscaping. Steve has taught international programs with educators from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Spain and has published research on international teachers and the impacts studying in Canada.

Kristiana Sibson is the Manager, International in the Faculty of Education at SFU.  She has over twelve years of experience working in the educational sector within BC and abroad in administrative and program development roles, and is passionate about supporting international initiatives, development, cooperation and intercultural understanding. Through her work and studies at SFU, she is committed to advocating for sustainable and reciprocal experiences for all.

Shovan Bajracharya is the Manager, International in the Faculty of Education at SFU. With over five years of experience in the education sector in both Canada and Nepal, he is passionate about advancing international initiatives, fostering program development, promoting cross-cultural learning, and collaborating with students and educators worldwide. He is dedicated to building strong global partnerships and strengthening the SFU Faculty of Education鈥檚 international connections.
