Wellness Programming

Wellness Classes

All SFU Vancouver students, staff, and faculty are welcome to join us for the free wellness classes listed below! All classes take place in the SFU Vancouver Wellness Studio.

Wellness Classes for the Fall 2025 semester run from September 23 to December 11.

Using the Wellness Studio:

To use the Wellness Studio, you must be an SFU student, staff, or faculty member and complete an SFU Athletics & Recreation Waiver once per academic year (September-August).

Location: SFU Vancouver Wellness Studio, room 2530, Harbour Centre, 515 W. Hastings St.

SFU Athletics & Recreation Waiver:

  • *Credit students can fill out the Waiver online at

  • *Staff and faculty can fill out the Waiver online at

  • Non-credit students can fill out a hard copy of the Waiver in-person in the Wellness Studio

*Online Waivers: Once you have completed the Waiver online, please take a screen shot and send to vanadmin@sfu.ca, or forward the confirmation email you receive to vanadmin@sfu.ca. A record will be kept of online Waiver completion so that you do not need to fill out a hard copy of the Waiver in the Wellness Studio.

Please Note: No registration is required. Attendance to classes is first-come-first-served and limited to 15 people per class. Classes can fill up quickly and when they reach capacity, we will not accept any more attendees. Please arrive early as access to class will end at the posted start time.

11:45am - 12:15pm Meditation with Sarah Parkes and Laurie Anderson
If you're interested in bringing more calmness into your life, enhancing your mental clarity, or promoting emotional balance, this is the class for you. Each week we will offer a guided meditation practice, a breathwork session and a take home practice to help you recenter, increase awareness and build your capacity to manage stress. No prior experience is necessary: just show up and connect with yourself in a supportive space. Sessions led by Sarah Parkes, MA, RCC, SFU Health and Counselling and Dr Laurie Anderson, Executive Director, SFU's Vancouver campus.

*No equipment is required; chairs and cushions will be available.

12:30 - 1:15pm Core and Stretch with Jeannette Wolfe This class engages your core, which includes lower back, quadriceps, glutes, hip flexors, abdominals and obliques. Then we'll use stretching techniques to stretch out the major muscle groups. This is a great way to get your body moving, improve core strength, balance and flexibility. All levels welcome.

*Please bring your own mat.

12:30 - 1:15pm Total Body Conditioning with Silvi Ortega This dynamic full-body workout is designed to improve strength, endurance, and mobility using just your body weight and resistance bands. Expect a mix of functional movements, core-focused exercises, and resistance training that targets all major muscle groups. Whether you're looking to build lean muscle, boost stamina, or enhance overall fitness, this session will leave you feeling stronger and energized. 

*Resistance bands will be provided. Please bring your own mat.
Thursdays

September 25 to December 11
12:30 - 1:15pm Hatha Yoga with Pamela Ferman Hatha Yoga, with a focus on alignment, pairs seated, standing and on-the-back poses with breathing techniques. This class will flow slowly and smoothly from one posture to another, with some long holds in between for deeper fascia stretching. A combination of flexibility, strength, balance, movement, and stillness will be used throughout the class. Participants will leave feeling more grounded, energized, and balanced between body and mind. All levels, including beginners, are welcome!

*Please bring your own yoga mat. We will not provide any mats or props.
