Biography
Yuan Wei is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at SFU. He received an MA in Anthropology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a BA in International Politics from Fudan University. His doctoral research focuses on the intersection between family and queer activism in contemporary China. Based on fieldwork in several cities in China, it examines new forms of selfhood, motherhood, and family ideals crafted by queer and parent activists in their strive for social recognition and legal rights for LGBT people.
