Education

Our department provides an established and distinctive program of undergraduate and graduate studies that provides rigorous foundational and disciplinary training, in an environment that fosters critical thinking, creative pedagogy, experiential learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. We offer one of the few truly interdisciplinary joint sociology and anthropology programs in North America, with our interdisciplinarity boldly displayed in the curriculum structure of both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Research

Whether it is local, global, international, comparative or community-based, qualitative or quantitative, our research addresses contemporary issues and spans a wide variety of interdisciplinary themes common to the study of people and their relationships to institutions. We tie historically durable structures to people鈥檚 habits, thoughts and actions, and in the process track emergent conditions, new forms of sociality, and ways of imagining alternative futures.
