Acknowledging Indigenous Peoples at SIAT

To honour and pay respect to the Indigenous Peoples whose lands SFU campuses are situated, the university community is encouraged to make acknowledgements to the host Nations and their traditional lands at the beginning of events. Below are several resources for territorial acknowledgements.

Example territorial acknowlegements by location

The following are examples of land acknowldgements for several locations. These are not scripts but can be used to help guide you in crafting your own statements. 

In crafting your own statement, we invite you to reflect on what reconciliation and decolonization mean to you and include that reflection following your land acknowledgement. Questions to ask yourself: How does this affect me? How does it make me feel? What actions am I committed to moving forward?

ALL CAMPUSES

SURREY CAMPUS

ÓÈÎïÊÓÆµ respectfully acknowledges the unceded traditional territories, including the Semiahmoo, Katzie, kÊ·ikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Kwantlen, Qayqayt and Tsawwassen Nations, on which SFU Surrey is located.

VANCOUVER CAMPUS
