SFU SCIENCE RENDEZVOUS 2025

A free family day of science activities and live shows!

Join us at SFU Burnaby campus for science activities, presentations, demonstrations, and a walking tour of the Trottier Observatory! This event is hosted with our friends from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Vancouver in celebration of International Astronomy Day.

Connect with our university scientists and researchers, experience the magic of their scientific discoveries, and build your own breakthrough inventions that you can call your own! Come drop by anytime between 11:00am-3:30pm to engage with our science exhibitors, no need to register.

MAGIC CHEMISTRY SHOW

Experience the magic of chemistry through explosive and exciting demonstrations and displays! Watch how acid/base reactions can create a myriad of colours right in front of your eyes too! Admission is free, but registration for these shows on a first come first served basis is required. All ages welcome.

Show #1: 12:00-12:50pm

Show #2: 2:00-2:50pm

Room: B9200 (Large Biology Lecture Hall, off the Academic Quadrangle south hall)

SFU FACULTY OF SCIENCE'S CYNTHIA HENSON WINS CREATIVE AWARD FOR SCIENCE RENDEZVOUS AND INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMY DAY 2023!

Now retired, in her role as Manager for Outreach and Engagement, Faculty of Science, Cynthia organized this event, together with several other outreach and engagement initiatives on behalf of SFU Faculty of Science, for almost a decade. Her consistency in program delivery, attention to relationships, and a well-orchestrated team effort, were crucial to making each Science Rendezvous event, successful. Cynthia firmly believes in the value of community engagement and creative hands-on science learning through fun and engaging events such as Science Rendezvous, among others.

The Manager for Outreach and Engagement is supported by the efforts, advice and resources from the SFU Faculty of Science, the Science Dean's Office and the Outreach Advisory Committee; the Science in Action, Trottier Observatory and event volunteers; the staff of the Trottier Observatory and Courtyard and partners such as SFU, the City of Burnaby and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (Vancouver).
