Alyssa Croft awarded 2025 Barry Beyerstein Award for Excellence in Teaching
Lecturer Alyssa Croft has received the 2025 Barry Beyerstein Award for Excellence in Teaching. Based on student and faculty nominations, this award is given annually to recognize outstanding teaching by regular faculty members. Within the department, Croft teaches PSYC 102, PSYC 260, and PSYC 300W.
Student and faculty feedback have highlighted her passion for psychology, dedication to student success, and strong commitment to teaching and learning.
鈥淎lyssa Croft is an exceptional instructor, gifted not just in her ability to create engaging lectures, but also in her capacity to understand and care for each of her students. She is not only a teacher who educates, but a teacher who helps students succeed,鈥 shares one student nominator.
Croft has demonstrated a strong willingness to innovate in her teaching approach. One example is her comprehensive redesign of PSYC 300W, a required writing-intensive course for all Psychology majors.
鈥淪he overhauled the course within her first and second year as a new faculty member,鈥 notes another nominator. 鈥淪he incorporated feedback from students, TAs, and colleagues, working diligently to align the course with the needs of learners. To take this on during her first year of teaching reflects her perseverance and commitment to high-quality undergraduate education.鈥
Croft鈥檚 enthusiasm for the material she teaches and dedication in delivering exceptional undergraduate instruction is best exemplified by the Barry Beyerstein Award for Excellence in Teaching.
As one student writes, 鈥淐roft鈥檚 positive influence extends beyond the classroom. Her contributions have enriched the department, inspiring the next generation of students and educators.鈥
