Policy Development and Revision
Policies play an important role in university governance. To be effective, SFU’s policies and procedures must be current, practical, and useful, readily accessible, and comply with applicable law.
±Ê´Ç±ô¾±³¦²â B10.00, Policy on Policies within Board of Governors’ Jurisdiction and Associated Procedures, formally establishes a policy management framework and the process for developing and conducting regular reviews of policies that are within the jurisdiction of the Board of Governors. The policy development guide provides a summary of this policy development process. The policy and procedures will govern in the event of any conflict or inconsistency with this guide.
The policy management framework requires policy developers and approvers to consider why a new policy or amendment is needed and the benefits, risks, and the other implications associated with it. This includes how the policy advances the University’s values and priorities and any inconsistencies with them.
The policy management framework also includes a method through which members of the University Community may request a new policy or revisions to policy. University Community members wishing to do so must complete the questionnaire and submit it to the Designated Lead or Policy Sponsor for that specific policy. The request and questionnaire responses will be reviewed as described in the policy development process outlined in policy B10.00.
