Biomedical Physiology & Kinesiology master's student in the Faculty of Science

Tell us a little about yourself, including what inspires you to learn and continue in your chosen field

听I鈥檝e always been curious about how the human body works, especially when it comes to heart health. What keeps me inspired is knowing that the research I鈥檓 part of, like studying heart cells and diseases, could help people in the real world one day. Learning and growing in this field gives me purpose and hope.

Why did you choose to come to SFU?

I chose to continue at SFU for my graduate studies because of the strong academic foundation and supportive environment I experienced during my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Physiology. As an international student, staying at SFU felt like the right choice to grow both academically and personally in a familiar and encouraging setting.

How would you describe your research or your program to a family member?

I study how the heart works, especially when something goes wrong with it, like in heart rhythm disorders. In my research, I use stem cells to grow tiny heart cells in the lab so we can see how certain genes might lead to heart problems over time. It鈥檚 like building a mini model of the heart to understand diseases better and, hopefully, find ways to treat them in the future.

What three (3) keywords would you use to describe your research?

Heart disease, Stem cells, Heart rhythm

How have your courses, RA-ships, TA-ships, or non-academic school experiences contributed to your academic and/or professional development?

My courses gave me a strong foundation in physiology and research methods, while working as a research assistant allowed me to apply that knowledge in a real lab setting.
