POSITION SUMMARY

The Pantophlet Lab is seeking a Research Associate to support the PROGENITER project, a large-scale initiative in antibody discovery and development. The incumbent will identify, optimize and advance neutralizing antibody leads, as well as support related projects in viral immunology. Responsibilities include developing and applying immunological, molecular biology, and virological methods to screen and characterize antibodies. The candidate will also assist with experimental design, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Immunology, Virology, Microbiology, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in antibody discovery or immunological characterization
  • Highly proficient and experienced in viral assays (e.g., neutralization, infection), cell-based assays, and flow cytometry
  • Strong molecular biology skills (PCR, cloning, mutagenesis, expression analysis)
  • Track record of first-author peer-reviewed publications or patents in relevant areas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
  • Experience with real-time cell analysis or laboratory automation is an asset

ABOUT THE CHART Lab

The Capturing Health and Resilience Trajectories (CHART) lab is an interdisciplinary research lab at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), 尤物视频 (SFU), led by Dr. Hasina Samji, that collaborates with schools, public health, and youth partners to improve youth mental health and wellbeing. We focus on identifying the determinants of mental health and wellbeing and collaboratively mobilize research into action.

The CHART Lab leads the Youth Development Instrument (YDI), a school-based, self-report survey for BC students in grades 10-12, designed to identify the resources, opportunities, and practices that support positive youth development and hear directly from young people about what matters the most to them. Core to the study is a strengths-based approach, identifying positive childhood experiences that are protective for mental health and can mitigate the impacts of adversity. The CHART Lab employs youth participatory action principles, working alongside the provincial CHART Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a body composed of 25 young people between the ages of 15-18 years.

POSITION SUMMARY

The CHART Lab Epidemiologist will report with the PI, Dr Samji, and work with other CHART members to support research and data analysis activities related to the YDI database. The epidemiologist will also lead epidemiologic studies in response to a broad range of youth mental health and wellbeing topics. This position collaborates with the CHART team and YAC on knowledge mobilization efforts to inform local and provincial practices.

Responsibilities include

  • Design and conduct epidemiological studies using the YDI data
  • Support the evaluation of initiatives related to youth wellbeing in BC school districts
  • Perform YDI linkage with administrative health data and other tools of the Child Development Monitoring System
  • Oversee data sharing, ethics, and privacy agreements, as well as consistent and proper use of the datasets
  • Conduct data cleaning, analysis, and report generation using R software
  • Lead and review study protocols, abstracts, and manuscripts
  • Support knowledge mobilization activities, including the preparation of data for presentations, reports, and infographics.
  • Support the preparation of grant applications (e.g., CIHR)
  • Attend weekly research staff meetings and meetings with partners, as needed
  • Support and review the work of students (e.g., MPH practicum students).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Master鈥檚 degree in epidemiology, population/public health (with a focus on quantitative methods), or health sciences and a minimum of 2 years of recent related professional experiences.
  • Solid understanding of epidemiology (e.g., study design, bias) and biostatistics (e.g., regression modelling, adjustment for confounding, handling missing data, trend analyses, mediation, moderation) is required.
  • Experience with population health survey design, implementation, and data analysis, is required
  • Experience with administrative health data (particularly in BC and Canada) and other large datasets is preferred.
  • Experience with linking datasets is required.
  • Strong skills for writing a script in R are required.
  • Understanding of social determinants and child/adolescent development theories preferred.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including writing and editing documents such as reports for various audiences, are required.
  • Experience with evaluation studies is an asset.
  • Experience with participatory projects is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grant-writing, manuscript and report preparation is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and work effectively under minimal supervision is required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pantophlet Lab at 尤物视频 is seeking a Research Scientist to support its NIH-funded research program focused on antibody discovery and pandemic preparedness. This position will focus on characterizing monoclonal antibodies, interrogating the immune repertoire, and integrating workflows using automated platforms such as a Biomek i7. The successful candidate will assist in optimizing antibody selection, contribute to flow cytometry-based phenotyping, real-time functional screening, and biophysical analysis, and support the drafting of manuscripts and dissemination at conferences.

Qualifications

  • PhD (preferred) or MSc in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • Strong experience in flow cytometry, immune repertoire profiling, and mAb discovery
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and troubleshoot automated liquid handlers (Biomek or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with SEC-MALS and 脛KTA chromatography systems strongly preferred

The Bridge Research Consortium (BRC) was formed in 2024 to strengthen Canada鈥檚 pandemic readiness by helping to build a domestic therapeutic pipeline and immunization system that embeds public trust and equitable access into scientific innovation, policy development, and operational readiness. As a unique academic consortium of social sciences and humanities scholars, working with scientists, healthcare workers, and other varied partners and collaborators across Canada and the world, the BRC focuses on addressing the social and behavioural factors associated with the uptake of new vaccines and immunotherapies.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position offers the opportunity to support KMb activities and outputs as part of an interdisciplinary team working across Canada. The KMb Coordinator will develop and apply skills in administration, planning, budgeting, and logistics.The role also offers the opportunity to work with a wide range of people and organizations including scientists, government and industry.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Support the KMb Lead and KMb staff with planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing KMb activities including logistics, budgeting, internal communications, reporting, and dissemination of materials
  • Provide administrative support for the production of KMb outputs including briefs, reports, presentations, webinars, and public-facing resources

The BRC is one of four projects funded by the Government of Canada, as part of Canada鈥檚 Immuno-Engineering and Biomanufacturing Hub (CIEBH) at UBC. It is also one of 19 projects funded in 2024, under Canada鈥檚 Biomanufacturing and Life Sciences Strategy, 鈥渢o rebuild a strong and resilient domestic biomanufacturing and life sciences sector鈥 ahead of a future pandemic event.

While Canada is poised to achieve exciting and important scientific breakthroughs, the COVID-19 pandemic showed that support for the optimal uptake of new vaccines and therapies is also needed. The decline of vaccine uptake within some populations over the past decade risks the return of vaccine preventable diseases and undermines the capacity for Canada to respond effectively to a future pandemic. In this context, the BRC has been funded as a unique collaboration of leading social sciences and humanities scholars across Canada. The Consortium brings together expertise in anthropology, bioethics, communications, history, international relations, law, political science, public administration, sociology and other disciplines, with public health, clinical medicine, and nursing.

Led by Professor Kelley Lee (尤物视频) and Professor 脠ve Dub茅 (Laval University), the project brings together wide-ranging expertise and perspectives to better understand and support public trust and equitable access to new vaccines and immune-based innovations that strengthen Canada鈥檚 readiness for future health emergencies.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Knowledge Mobilization Specialist conducts the planning, implementation and evaluation of activities within the Bridge Research Consortium (BRC), Canada鈥檚 Immuno-Engineering and Biomanufacturing Hub (CIEBH), and other collaborating hubs. The Specialist will contribute to boosting KMb capacity within the BRC and will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of outputs, products, activities, and events to advance public trust and equitable access to new vaccines and immune-based innovations related to pandemic preparedness and response.

Duties and Responsibilities 

    Providing a full range of services, opportunities, and resources to enhance the CIEBH and projects of other hubs activities by:

  • Acting as a node between the BRC and collaborating hubs to assess KMb needs and opportunities
  • Working with BRC members and collaborators to identify and understand audiences, communities, and other priority knowledge users to tailor and disseminate outputs
  • Translating diverse forms of evidence (research articles, key informant interviews, consultations, etc.) from various disciplines (e.g., microbiology, health equity, law, etc.) into clear and accessible language or visual summaries
  • Developing and/or coordinating the development of KMb outputs, such as science museum exhibits, policy briefs, evidence summaries, blogs, newsletters, and infographics and articles for lay publications
  • Sourcing the translation of materials into relevant languages

POSITION SUMMARY

The Administrative Assistant, Project Support provides direct administrative and logistical support to the Project and Operations Manager and the Project and Administrative Coordinator to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the portfolio at the Bridge Research Consortium (BRC). Reporting directly to the Project and Operations Manager, this role supports scheduling, documentation, coordination, and communication across multiple projects and groups. The Administrative Assistant, Project Support helps maintain organized workflows and ensures timely execution of administrative tasks, allowing senior staff to focus on strategy and oversight.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide administrative and scheduling support to the Project and Operations Manager and the Project and Administrative Coordinator, including booking meetings, maintaining calendars, and arranging logistics for virtual and in-person events.
  • Draft, proofread, and format correspondence, reports, and presentation materials for review by the Project and Operations Manager.
  • Record meeting minutes, track action items, and follow up with team members to ensure timely completion. Materials to be reviewed by the Project and Operations Manager and the Project and Administrative Coordinator.

ABOUT THE CCAIHG

The Centre for Collaborative Action on Indigenous Health Governance (CCAIHG), situated in the Faculty of Health Sciences at 尤物视频 (SFU), is the first-of-its-kind Indigenous health governance research centre that provides the opportunity for Indigenous people, communities, and scholars to learn from and share their experiences on Indigenous health governance. POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated full-time (37.5 hours/week) or part-time (30 hours/week) Senior Research Writer to join our research centre. This is a senior publication writing role that provides leadership on all academic publications, community-facing reports, and institutional writing projects associated with the CCAIHG and the BC NEIHR. The Senior Research Writer will oversee the full publication pipeline, including leading the development of academic manuscripts, scoping reviews, commentaries, Centre-led research reports, grant writing support, annual and project reporting, and identifying publication opportunities and collaborations. The position works collaboratively with the Centre staff (i.e., Director), BC Network Environment for Indigenous Health Research (BC NEIHR) team members, Indigenous communities and partners, internal and external collaborators, and SFU interdisciplinary teams to manage research publications and reporting for both the Centre and BC NEIHR.

This position reports to the Centre Director Dr. Krista Stelkia.

ABOUT THE BRIDGE RESEARCH CONSORTIUM | 

The Bridge Research Consortium (BRC) is funded under the Canada Biomedical and Research Fund to strengthen Canada鈥檚 domestic biomanufacturing capacity for future pandemic readiness. The BRC is focused on supporting public trust and equitable access to new vaccines and immunotherapies across Canada.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Research Assistant will lead a small project to analyze the role and content of an on-line health information platform, focused on vaccine related content, for the Chinese language community in Canada. Under the supervision of the Scientific Co-Director, this role will involve conducting this research, leading the co-authored writing of a research paper for submission to a peer-reviewed journal, and leading the writing of a policy brief.

Duties & Responsibilities 

Work tasks will involve the following:

  • conduct a brief literature review on Chinese-language health information sources in Canada;
  • collect and analyze data from a selected Chinese language social media platform;
  • collect and analyze interview data of platform users;
  • lead the writing of a research paper for submission to a peer-reviewed journal;
  • lead the writing of a policy brief on the study鈥檚 findings; and
  • potentially produce related knowledge mobilization outputs as appropriate.

Qualifications

We are seeking a senior undergraduate student with the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • good understanding of health promotion and public health interventions, preferably including immunization
  • research experience applying qualitative methods, notably social media content analysis and interviewing
  • familiarity with on-line Chinese language health information platforms
  • conversational fluency in Mandarin
  • ability to read Chinese
  • strong interpersonal and team skills
  • strong ability to work cooperatively as part of a large team

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Nominated Principal Investigator Dr. Krista Stelkia (SFU; BC NEIHR; CCAIHG), Program Manager, Elizabeth Hunter (BC NEIHR), as well as working with BC NEIHR鈥檚 governance partners (First Nations Health Authority, M茅tis Nation BC, and BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres), and collaborators such as the BC SUPPORT Unit, the IRL will undertake the following activities:

Relationship Building

鈻 Respectfully engage and develop relationships and research partnerships with ICCOs, Indigenous researchers across the regions in BC. Participant in health-related gatherings (budget permitting) to engage with ICCOs and bring awareness of the BC NEIHR program by promoting the Network membership registration.
鈻 Create strategies to address distrust and barriers around health research in colonial research environments.
鈻 Keep ongoing and regular communication with funded ICCOs.

Liaison & Facilitation

鈻 Collaborate with the BC NEIHR and CCAIHG Teams, including external collaborators and partners (i.e., BC SUPPORT Unit) to plan, coordinate, and evaluate local/regional capacity bridging events, webinars, training sessions, and knowledge sharing gatherings or activities.
鈻 Share and distribute information of BC NEIHR funding and capacity bridging opportunities to ICCOs.
鈻 Travel to meet with ICCOs in their respective region and participate in Indigenous Health and Wellness conferences or gatherings (travel budget permitting).
鈻 Liaison with ICCOs to identify and address regional community research priorities.
鈻 Support the facilitation of partnerships for the development of community-based research ethics review processes and other collaborations.

Mentorship

鈻 Mentor ICCOs for building capacity as an organization or collective (e.g. opening collectives bank accounts, incorporating associations, and structuring projects for funding access).
鈻 Provide capacity-bridging support to ICCOs provincially and in respective regions, including mentoring ICCOs to create and develop innovative and integrative research development and knowledge sharing strategies.
鈻 Support ICCOs leaders to take full control of their projects, ensuring self-determination with allies acting only as support (e. g. they decide what, when, and how to proceed).
鈻 Provide mentorship and technical support to ICCOs in writing research development grant and knowledge sharing mobilization grant applications.

Navigation

鈻 Guide ICCOs in building capacity for health research initiatives.
鈻 Develop plain-language workbooks and templates to support the BC NEIHRs research development and knowledge sharing activities.
鈻 Translate academic terminology and institutional processes for ICCOs with diverse literacy levels and research experience, ensuring that Indigenous knowledge systems are respected and integrated where possible.
鈻 Assist ICCOs by providing an overview and navigating institutional procedures, such as institutional ethics review boards, ethical guidelines, grants approval processes, and other administrative requirements.

The Indigenizing Health Research Ethics project goal is to improve and advance Indigenous health research ethics practices and protocols in BC to be more culturally safe and grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and distinctions-based guidelines. An innovative and Indigenous-led approach to achieving the overarching research goal and aims is grounded in a collaborative network of research ethics partners (Indigenous communities, collectives, organizations [ICCOs], research ethics boards [REBs], and Indigenous health researchers [IHRs]) that centers Indigenous ways of knowing in Indigenizing health research ethics in BC.
