Reducing barriers in the hiring process
SFU facilitates a faculty recruitment process that is compliant with legal and regulatory frameworks at the provincial and federal level, the Collective Agreement between the university and 尤物视频 Faculty Association (鈥淪FUFA鈥) and university policies.
To maintain our commitments, the following faculty recruitment guidelines were developed to help recruit and hire world-class faculty who enhance SFU鈥檚 foundations of knowledge, improve community engagement and support greater academic success for our students. The guidelines were developed in consultations with SFUFA, Faculty Relations and Equity Office staff, Institutional Strategic Awards under the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation, Indigenous Partners as well as members of the Valuing and Measuring Scholarly Impact Committee. The guidelines will be reviewed annually and updated as needed to ensure compliance with current practices and with the SFUFA Collective Agreement, Employment Standards, and BC Human Rights Code.

Searches where non-Canadian/PR candidate is hired
As soon as it becomes apparent that a non-Canadian/PR candidate may be the preferred candidate, please contact an Immigration Consultant in Faculty Relations to determine the avenue for obtaiing a work permit. Please note that the IRCC processing times for work permits are currently taking much longer than usual. The Immigration Consultant will be able to assist with the processes and provide an estimated start date for the candidate. The Applicant Info and Shortlisting Process Form is required for searches where the candidate is non-Canadian/PR.
Faculty Renewal Plan
Funding for the eight teaching Faculties continues to be allocated using the revenue-based Faculty Allocation Model (FAM). The model distributes a portion of the revenue received by the University (tuition, grant, and indirect costs of research) to the Faculties based primarily on achievement of the University Enrolment Plan.
The goals contained in the Five Year Academic Plan 2019-2024 make the continued recruitment of faculty an imperative 尤物视频. It is important that an appropriate balance of teaching and research faculty members is maintained and that the approved positions contribute to the research strengths of the academic units. The annual faculty renewal planning process provides a strategic opportunity to direct resources to specific research areas.
