Graduation
I have applied to graduate, what happens next?
Once you submit your application, no immediate action is needed. The University’s next correspondence with you will be to confirm your degree (via a Senate Letter). Students who are ineligible to graduate will be contacted by the Faculty of Applied Science before the end of the term and will be given guidance on next steps.
What does my graduation status in goSFU mean (applied, in review, approved, awarded)?
• Applied – Your application has been received.
• In Review - Application is under review. Status will remain "In Review" until shortly before Senate meets.
• Withdrawn - Your application for graduation was withdrawn, either at your request or for non-payment of the graduation fee. You may re-apply.
• Approved - Graduation has been approved by your faculty for recommendation to Senate. It will remain "Approved" for only a few days prior to being "Awarded."
• Awarded - Senate has granted your degree: You may now participate in the upcoming Convocation ceremony and receive your degree parchment.
Where can I find information about a post-graduate work permit?
A brief overview can be found on SFU’s post-graduate work permit website. We recommend reviewing the Government website as well.
I require proof of my graduation, when will this be available?
- Senate Letters will be emailed to all students once you are approved for graduation by SFU Senate.
- Credential Completion Letters can also be downloaded from goSFU and used as proof of graduation. After Senate Letters are sent out, these letters will no longer be available for download.
- Your official degree parchment will be awarded to you at your convocation ceremony. See details in the graduation checklist for further information or contact urecords@sfu.ca for questions.
