We are pleased to share that SFU has re-negotiated a long-term lease agreement at SFU Harbour Centre. This important step reaffirms our commitment to a dynamic, sustainable, and thriving presence in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

A recent review of space has highlighted how post-pandemic shifts—such as hybrid work, online instruction, and evolving technologies—have changed how we use our spaces at the Vancouver campus. In response, our long-term plan focuses on optimizing and revitalizing our campus by fostering stronger connections across programs and faculties and consolidating underutilized areas.

The new agreement will better utilize space within Harbour Centre to enhance opportunities for collaboration, while also reducing costs and our environmental footprint. However, there will be no reduction in student or classroom space.

As part of this plan, programs currently located in the Harbour Centre Tower building — Venture Labs and Beedie School of Business administrative offices—will be integrated into the main Harbour Centre building. This move will better connect Beedie’s growing graduate programs and Venture Labs’ expanding partnerships with the university community. 

We are working closely with Deans, faculty, and staff to ensure that space is allocated equitably and enables collaboration, and is also thoughtfully planned and well-supported throughout this transition. All space moves within Harbour Centre are expected to be complete by September 2026.

Since the 1980s, SFU Vancouver has been a pioneer in urban education, transforming a former department store into a vibrant hub for lifelong learning. With this new lease extending through 2037, we are proud to continue that legacy and invest in a strong future for our downtown campus.
