The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan is drawing global attention and concern amid the chaotic exit of troops and citizens, as the Taliban takes over the beleaguered country. SFU experts who can comment include:

Hira recently  analyzing the potential for a Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. Over a decade ago he  for the Canadian Defence & Foreign Affairs Institute discussing why nation building was failing in the country. 

PARIN DOSSA, professor, anthropology

Expertise: feminist anthropology, immigration, mental health, women, Muslim women, migration, mobility.  

Dossa has conducted ethnographic research on women in Afghanistan, particularly on their survival strategies and perseverance. Dossa is also author of the book, Afghanistan Remembers: Gendered Narratives of Violence and Culinary Practices (2014).
