" I value the supportive work environment, culture of inclusivity, and research on climate change, aging, and community engagement prioritized by Dr. Pauly鈥檚 lab and broadly at SFU."
Postdoctoral Fellow Profile: Victoria Michalowski
Department of Gerontology Postdoctoral Fellow in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
I completed my PhD in Health Psychology at the University of British Columbia in 2020. My research broadly centers around positive aging, health behaviour change, and stress & coping. I have expertise in advanced quantitative data analysis and ambulatory assessment methods. My current research focuses on everyday facilitators and barriers to coping with extreme heat events (e.g., heat waves, heat domes) among older adults. My research aims to promote climate change adaptation and mitigation among older adults, with a strong focus on knowledge translation and community engagement.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
I chose to do my postdoctoral fellowship at Dr. Theresa Pauly's research at the Lifelong Health and Wellbeing Lab at SFU because of the unique fit with my research background and aspirations. I value the supportive work environment, culture of inclusivity, and research on climate change, aging, and community engagement prioritized by Dr. Pauly鈥檚 lab and broadly at SFU.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
I research aging and climate change. I look at what helps (and doesn鈥檛 help) older adults stay safe in extremely hot weather. I鈥檓 trying to find ways that older adults can protect themselves, but also what community-based programs can do to support them. I鈥檓 trying to do this research in a way that allows older adults to advocate for themselves and the environment.
