B.C. unprepared for demands of increasingly electrified future
In an interview with , Professor Anil (Andy) Hira says that B.C. needs to prepare for a massive influx of electricity demand in seven to ten years by investing in clean energy projects now.
Hira points out that BC Hydro鈥檚 Site C hydroelectric dam will only create enough additional power to last B.C. for a decade, saying the project has been a huge debacle.
鈥淚t was poorly sited, there was a lack of transparency, the consultants they used didn鈥檛 properly look at the foundations,鈥 he says. 鈥淪o there are huge cost overruns. The end result of that cost overrun is that BC Hydro, already a very secretive and kind of closed organization basically shut down its incipient program to fund new sources of renewable energy.鈥
