Stratagene UV Crosslinker
The Stratagene Stratalinker 2400 UV Crosslinker is taken care of by the MBB Manager, Laboratory Operations.
The Stratalinker 2400 UV Crosslinker can be used to crosslink DNA or RNA to nylon, nitrocellulose, or nylon-reinforced nitrocellulose membrances. Using the Crosslinker, the process only takes 25 - 50 seconds, as opposed to the tradiation method of baking filters at 80C for 2 hours. As well, crosslinking significantly increases hybridization signals compared to oven-baking. This instrument can be used for Northern, Southern, dot or slot blot analysis; colony or plaque screening; nicking of DNA in agarose gels before blotting; causing dimer formation resulting in partial digests for rapid restriction mapping; screen recA mutations; and UV irradiation of PCR samples.
Specifications:
- 254 nm bulbs.
- 3 modes of operation:
- Energy: display numbers are in microjoules/cm2 x 100. 120,000 are recommended for most membranes. If this is chosen, display will show as 1,200.
- Time: display numbers are in minutes. Exposure time can be set from 0.1 to 999.9 minutes.
- Autocrosslink: preset for 1,200 microjoules (x 100). Length of time is preset for ~50 seconds.
