Kathleen Anderson

Taanshi kiyawaaw! I’m Kathleen (she/they) and I’m from Winnipeg located in Treaty One territory in Southern Manitoba. En Michif niya. I received my BA in SFU’s Indigenous Studies and Linguistics Joint Major and am now returning to pursue my MA. As a learner of Southern Michif, I’m primarily focused on Indigenous language revitalization, morphosyntax of Algonquian languages, and language documentation. I’ve had the privilege to work with my heritage language and speakers of Southern Michif over the last three years and am looking forward to furthering the revitalization of our language. Outside of academia, I enjoy reading, cooking, harvesting, travelling and doing pilates. Eekoshi.

Mychaela Blatta

I graduated from UBC with an undergraduate major in Linguistics and a minor in Chinese Language and Culture. I want to specialize in syntax-semantic interface. My specific research interests are perspective dependent phenomena in syntax and semantics such as tense, aspect, modality and evidentiality in Bantu, Algonqian, and Sino-Tibetan language families.

Trevor Block

I’m Trevor. I’m returning for a PhD, working under Dr. Chung-hye Han in the XSyn Lab. I will be continuing my experimental work on the processing of pronouns with an emphasis on understanding how acceptability ratings, online processing, and production data interact. I have taught as a sessional instructor in the Linguistics department since 2018 and am excited to continue doing so throughout my graduate studies. Outside of academia, I like to read non-fiction, create educational videos, and walk as much as I can.

Phoenix Neuscheler

Hi! My name is Phoenix (they/them), and I’m from California, USA, where I completed my BA  in Linguistics at UC Santa Barbara. I’m looking forward to continuing my studies at SFU this fall, as well as exploring Vancouver and the nearby area. My main areas of interest are morphology, historical comparison, and language change, as well as the documentation and description of under-researched and/or endangered languages. Outside of academics, I enjoy reading, video games, and crochet (when I have the time), as well as exploring nature.

Sehyun Park

Hi, my name is Sehyun Park [sÉ›.hjÊŒn.pakÌš] (she/her), and I am from Seoul, South Korea. I studied English Language and Literature (BA) and English Linguistics (MA) at Sejong University in Korea. My research focuses on phonetics and phonology, with an emphasis on cognitive processes, particularly the relationship between speech perception and production, L2 speech, and the acquisition of phonological patterns. I have research experience in L2 speech, speech production, speech recognition, and corpus studies, which provides a foundation for my research interests. Outside of academics, I love summer, peanut butter, yogurt, and learning languages. I also enjoy crocheting, watching car racing, and travelling.

Sann Wilder

My name is Sann Wilder (Sann rhymes with ‘dawn’), I use they/them pronouns, and I am very excited to be starting at SFU in September! My research interests include Indigenous language revitalization, critical discourse analysis, ecolinguistics, and the syntax/semantics of gendered language. In my free time I chip away at my science fiction novel, read every book that crosses my path, and play with my needy senior cat, Theo.
