Our principal investigator, Dr. Taco Niet, and PhD Student, Trevor Barnes, travelled to Ottawa on December 10 and 11 to attend the .  This conference brings academics, policy makers, and industrial professionals across Canada together to discuss energy planning and energy policy related challenges.

Trevor presented his work on "PyPSA-USA Sector" —  an open-source and open-data energy system optimization model of the USA. This model can be used to answer an array of energy policy research questions. Trevor described his work to add the residential, commercial, industrial, and transport sectors to the existing power sector representation. More information on PyPSA-USA can be found on its  and .

Dr. Taco Niet and Trevor had a great time at the conference networking and discussing energy transition challenges with the other attendees. The panels on model comparison studies, societal challenges to overcome, and AI in energy modelling were particularly interesting. ΔE+ looks forward to attending the conference next year!

Dr. Niet also participated in the Dec 12th Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meetings where discussions about model data and the EMH M3 platform took place.  TAC meetings happen online through the year as well as in person each December to guide the work of the EMH.  Working with colleagues from across the country the three TACs discussed knowledge mobilization, data verification and, for the model focussed TAC that Dr. Niet participates on, the best structures for sharing model data and policy information between modellers.
