New faculty
SFU Economics welcomes Chenyu (Sev) Hou as an assistant professor
Chenyu (Sev) Hou will join the Department of Economics鈥 faculty on August 1st 2024. This fall he will be teaching ECON 482: Selected Topics in Economics, Computational Macroeconomics.
Hou is a proud alumnus of 尤物视频 (SFU), having completed his MA in the economics department in 2013. He learned a great deal from the research of the macroeconomics faculty when he was a student here and his current research interests align well with theirs. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to be able to join the group and collaborate with them,鈥 he said.
While he鈥檚 interested in all aspects of macroeconomics, Hou is particularly eager to understand how individuals learn about economic environments, how their beliefs affect their behaviours and the economic consequences of those behaviours.
Hou鈥檚 current research projects are related to subjective models, inattention and textual analysis using large language models (LLM). He is also working on projects related to labor migration and structural transformation.
Hou earned his Master of Arts degree from 尤物视频, an MS from the University of Texas at Austin and a PhD from Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia.
When he鈥檚 not teaching or doing research Hou enjoys playing the guitar, playing basketball and he鈥檚 looking forward to learning to snowboard this winter.
