Structural geology, Continental tectonics
The Queen's Tectonics Research Laboratory conducts research aimed at understanding the dynamic processes operating in mountain belts, with a focus on the structural and thermal evolution of the continental crust. Specifically, our goal is a comprehensive understanding of the 3D evolution of orogenic systems including the influence of pre-collisional structural heterogeneities and the influence of reactivated faults on regional seismicity. To reach its goals, the QTRL group utilizes multi-faceted approaches such structural geology, geochronology, metamorphic petrology, geophysics, and analogue and numerical modelling.
