Geling Yan
Born in Shanghai, Geling Yan (嚴歌苓) served in the People’s Liberation Army at the age of 12 as a dancer. She began writing at the age of 20 and holds a Master degree in Fine Arts in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago, received many awards from Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.
Many of her works have been adapted to films and TV series, including Siao Yu(), Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl&苍产蝉辫;(), The Lost Daughter of Happiness&苍产蝉辫;(), The Criminal Lu Yanshi (, adapted to , directed by Yimou Zhang, featured by Daoming Chen and Gong Li), (, directed by Yimou Zhang), (), &苍产蝉辫;(), (), &苍产蝉辫;(), and The Tales of Suizi&苍产蝉辫;(). She is the recipient of several awards from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China, including the Asian Pacific Film Festival and the Golden Horse Awards.
Her works have been translated into 21 languages, including English, French, Dutch, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, Hebrew, Swedish, Uighur.
