Congratulations to Ms. Yujin Kim and Ms. Zoe Hong, the two winners of our 2023 Best Graduate Student Paper award.

Yujin Kim entered the MA program in Sociology at 尤物视频 in 2022. She graduated from Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan with BA in Education and Culture (Honours, summa cum laude). Her undergraduate thesis presented Zainichi, Korean diasporas and descendants in Japan, especially focusing on their 鈥渟tateless鈥 nationality and citizenship as proof of their existence. Now studying in Vancouver, she is interested in discovering individuals鈥 transnational experiences and life histories by analyzing Korean migrants鈥 memoirs published in North America. The winning paper examines a Korean Canadian鈥檚 return to South Korea with affect theory, analyzing an essay book titled My Own Private Countries: Korea and Canada by Hannah Kim, a 1.5-generation Korean Canadian. Currently, she is working on her thesis under the supervision of Dr. Cindy Patton, exploring the voices of international Korean adoptees in Canada and the United States in their memoirs published in North America with affect theory.
