Academic integrity in the age of AI: updated tutorial now available

October 29, 2025

Did you know that SFU鈥檚 Student Academic Integrity Tutorial now includes content on artificial intelligence (AI)?

The Student Academic Integrity Tutorial is designed to educate new students about the academic integrity standards they are expected to uphold. It includes modules on topics such as plagiarism, patchwriting, and鈥攏ew this year鈥攇uidance on understanding the risks of using AI and learning how to cite AI appropriately.

The tutorial takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and does not replace course-specific instructions.

If you are setting up your spring 2026 course and would like to embed this resource, please ensure that you use the updated version. The tutorial does not update automatically so if you previously imported it into your course, delete the old version and import the new one.

To import the updated tutorial, go to SFU鈥檚 and navigate to the page. In the search bar, type 鈥淪tudent academic integrity tutorial 2026.鈥 Select the tutorial, then click 鈥淚mport/Download鈥 to add it to your course.

This resource was developed by SFU's academic integrity coordinator in consultation with the Centre for Educational Excellence and the Library, with input from SFU instructors including Erin Barley (science), Agata Becalska (science), Diana Cukierman (applied science), and Kevin O鈥橬eill (education).
