Implicit Bias and Decision-Making
Implicit or unconscious bias significantly affects decision-making in healthcare, impacting patient care, treatment choices, and interactions among healthcare professionals. Biases create stereotypes, leading to discrimination and exclusion, which harm both staff and patients. In this course, you'll learn how biases influence perceptions, actions and outcomes. You'll reflect on your own biases and ways to mitigate them, strengthen your ability to work effectively with diverse populations, and learn to identify and address microaggressions. You will also develop your skills in critical thinking and communication, including how to give feedback that supports equity, regardless of your role.
