2025 Chang Institute Idea Prize Winner Paves the Future for Sales Quoting Automation with AI

Entrepreneurial thinking sparks bold innovation, and the 鈥 a pillar program of the Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship 鈥 recognizes and supports the most promising of these within the SFU community. Whether inspired by academic projects or real-world challenges, the multi-stage pitch competition encourages university members to ideate, innovate, and develop impactful solutions. Serving as an accessible pathway for the next generation of innovators, changemakers, and entrepreneurs, Idea Prize spotlights the ingenuity and ambition that drive entrepreneurial spirit at SFU.

was named Top Idea Prize winner of SFU's 2025 Chang Institute Idea Prize competition. Founded by three Management of Technology MBA candidates, the team's innovative extension tool integrates with users鈥 video conferencing software, translating sales discussions into immediate, tailored quotes.

Co-founders Robert Wilson, Abdel Tahir and Justin Ottensen are paving the way for sales professionals to streamline administrative tasks and transform sales efficiency through AI. With combined expertise in sales, software development, and strategic client optimization, they are committed to removing administrative barriers and improving customer relationships.

As the overall competition winner, CPQHero receives a $5,000 cash award, an in-kind IP Package from BLG law and direct entry to the Chang Institute鈥檚 startup incubator.  

鈥淲inning will supercharge our organization鈥檚 growth and go-to-market plan,鈥 says Wilson, 鈥淚t provides the resources to invest into market awareness, giving our offering the spotlight needed to make our idea a reality.鈥

The annual Idea Prize encourages innovation across SFU. Open to ideas, concepts, and early-stage ventures, the competition welcomes competitors from across all disciplines and departments.

The 33 participating teams represented five of SFU鈥檚 nine faculties, with undergraduate, graduate, faculty and alumni founders, as well as their community co-founders. From impact-driven nonprofit organizations to tech-based health products and sustainable clothing ventures, the competitors highlighted the breadth of early entrepreneurial activity at SFU.

Competing teams received training and support through workshops, pitch practice, and 1:1 mentorship, with volunteer judges selecting the winning teams through multiple pitch events.   

, a peer-to-peer marketplace platform dedicated to providing users with sustainable and affordable lending and renting of outdoor gear, took home second place and $2,000 cash. Founded by Tache Sato, a SFU Philosophy and Business undergraduate student, Gear2Peer takes a community-driven approach to support accessibility for outdoor enthusiasts.

Sato received early development support for Gear2Peer in BUS 477 and was recognized for his potential at the Chang Institute鈥檚 2024 Opportunity Fest - an annual showcase of innovative student projects.  Sato continues to build on this momentum by joining the institute鈥檚 for the 2025 Summer semester.

Securing third place and $1,000 at the competition is HomeKeep, a home maintenance subscription service. Founded by Matthys Van Bylandt, a Beedie undergraduate student, HomeKeep provides high-quality repairs and quarterly check-ins, offering homeowners a stress-free solution to unpredictable maintenance needs.

an AI-powered service hub for business owners founded by Beedie alumni Royce Sin, took home the Patrick Lougheed Alumni Founder Award and $2,500. As an engaged alumnus, Sin was a competitor at the 2024 Coast Capital Venture Prize and has continued to stay connected to the SFU and Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship communities as he grows his venture.

The Chang Institute Idea Prize plays a pivotal role in fostering entrepreneurial thinking at SFU, providing members of the community with the platform, resources, and recognition needed to turn their ideas into impactful ventures.  

Since their win, the 2024 Top Idea Prize winner Pulse Tofu has been developing their nutritious chickpea tofu alternative for soy-sensitive individuals. With continued support from the Chang Institute, they have expanded their product distribution to .
