BISC students in the Gries lab won awards at the Entomological Society of BC (ESBC) Annual General Meeting, held Friday October 4 at the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria.

Andi Fischer (Gries lab) won the Best Student oral presentation in the PhD category for his talk 鈥淔emale false black widow spiders sense, and behaviourally and physically respond to, female conspecific sex pheromone鈥�. Andi also received the ESBC graduate student scholarship.

Yonathan Uriel (also from the Gries lab) won the Best Student Oral presentation in the Master鈥檚 category with his talk 鈥淕enetic plasticity does not protect the green peach aphid from parasitoids鈥�.

Also noteworthy from the Gries lab: recent grad Dr. Dan Peach is the new Director of the ESBC and current student Asim Renyard is the ESBC鈥檚 new Student Director!
